KINESIO TAPING –EFFICIENT IN SPORTSMEN AS WELL AS IN PREGNANT WOMEN

The use of kinesiо tapes is increasingly common in athletes, in training and in competitions, but also in many patients, and this method is also a very common and unique choice for pregnant women.

Kinesio taping is a relatively new kinesiology based rehabilitation method. Created by Japanese Kenzo Kase, Japanese volleyball players first started using it. D-r Trajanka Dimitrijeska, a physiatrist at Re-Medika, explains that the effect of kinesio tapes comes from their weaving and proper application, and the essence of treatment with them is their proper placement in a certain part of the body. In doing so, says the doctor, they do not serve immobilization, but quite the opposite – they enable movement.

The kinesio tapes used in this method are made of cotton and acrylic and have no pharmacological ingredients. They are thin and easily adhered to the skin, which is easy to breathe. These straps are also quick-drying so the patient who uses them can shower without problems – says d-r Dimitrijeska.

WHEN ARE THE TAPES USED AND HOW DO THEY ACT?

Kinesio straps are used in orthopedic, neurological and neuromuscular diseases as well as in sports injuries. Contraindications such as open sores, scars, acrylic allergy and skin diseases can occur, the doctor added.

There are four basic sets of actions on these tapes.

Muscle Support – Improves muscle contraction, reduces muscle fatigue, reduces excessive stretching and muscle contraction, increases mobility, and reduces muscle spasms and chances of injury.

Circulation – Improve blood and lymph circulation, reduce heat, reduce inflammation and reduce pain.

Analgesic action – Activation of spinal and efferent analgesic system. Improving and resolving joint problems, normalizing muscle tone, improving joint mobility and reducing pain.

HOW ARE THE STRAPS SET UP AND WHO ARE THE USERS?

Tapes for this method of treatment are set according to certain rules, explains the doctor.

Specifically, how the straps are positioned depends on where they are placed, then whether it is a healthy athlete, for example, or a malfunctioning muscle or wrist, or acute or chronic wounds – explains d-r Dimitrijeska.

She adds that in some cases the strap is stretched more or less, in other cases the wrist is positioned properly.

Stretching is never done at the beginning and at the end of the strap. It is set unidirectional like the letter I, like the letter X or like the letter Y – says our interlocutor and adds that the use of kinesio tapes is becoming more common in athletes, in training, in competitions, but also in a large number of patients. This method, says the doctor, is both very common and the only choice for pregnant women.
